William H Shinton III Obituary

William H. Shinton III, 79, of Bayville, NJ passed away on June 25, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA., he settled to Bayville in 1971. Mr. Shinton proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War with the 1 & 9 Walking Dead elite squadron. William was highly decorated for his service. He received a Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnamese Service Medal with one bronze star, Vietnamese Campaign Medal with device, Good Conduct Medal, 1stAward, Natural Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Rifle Expert Badge, Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces Meritorious Unit Citation of the Gallantry Cross with Palm.


Mr. Shinton was assigned to the White House and was stationed at 8th and I, part of the Presidential Honor Guard where he guarded President Nixon and had the honor of being one of Robert Kennedy’s Pall Bears.


William worked at Shell Oil Company for 24 years, then worked at Chevron Oil Company until retirement.


William was a long-time member of the Berkeley Historical Society. He enjoyed music, was a devoted family man especially to his wife Carol and his cherished grandchildren.


He was predeceased by the love of his life Carol who he once met on a blind date while stationed at Earle Naval Base in Monmouth, NJ. Also, he is predeceased by his parents William H. Shinton II and Agnes Shinton and his two sisters, Janet and Nancy.


Surviving are his children Duane Shinton and his wife Melissa, Tammy Clermont and her husband Bruce, and Scott, three granddaughters Kayla Houle and her husband Alex, Taylor Stepnosky, and Victoria Seymour, three great grandchildren Brielle, Carter, and Gwendolyn, and one brother Daniel Shinton and his wife Maureen.


Viewing for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, 2:00 - 6:00pm at Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville, NJ. The Burial will be assigned at a later date with full Military Honors at Arlington National Cemetery, VA.
