Susan Dickhaus Obituary

In Loving Memory of Susan Marie Dickhaus

Susan Marie Dickhaus, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 8 th , 2024. Born on December 19 th , 1958 in New Jersey, Susan’s warm spirit, light nature, and memory will be treasured by all who were lucky enough to know her. Susan shared a love story with her husband Rick that began as teenagers when they locked eyes at a close friend’s house in Bayville, a moment Rick can still picture. Together, they built a life grounded in companionship and great adventure. Their bond was the foundation of a loving home from within they would build their family in Holly Park. Nothing made Susan happier than having her three daughters, her (“three chickees in the nest”), gathered at home. Family was her greatest joy, and she poured her love into every gathering, filling the house with warmth, laughter, and togetherness. Her home, especially her backyard, was a place of peace where she embraced nature’s beauty. As a Master Gardener, she spent her days in her backyard gardening, birdwatching, and following the hummingbird migration. Susan’s deep connection to nature began in her childhood along the Barnegat Bay where she spent days swimming, clamming, and boating. She loved cycling through new trails around the country, walking around the cranberry bogs, and four-wheeling out in the pines and on the beach. A magician in the kitchen, Susan’s cooking was an expression of love that she shared with her family and friends. Each meal she prepared was a source of comfort and joy, and the taste of lemon—her favorite—was often presented in her dishes, bringing brightness to each bite.

Susan is survived by her husband, Rick Dickhaus, her three cherished daughters, Julia Dickhaus, Katherine Dickhaus and fiancé Brian Busch, Sara de Zarraga and husband Gaston, beloved grandson Gaston (“G”), forthcoming granddaughter, mother Arlene Oliver, sister Lynda Egbert and husband Brian, sister-in-law Dorothy Meelheim and husband Ronnie, brother-in-law Jimmy Dickhaus and wife Josey, as well as six nieces and nephews. Susan was also blessed with an extraordinary group of friends, many of whom she had known since childhood, and her spirit
lives on through them as well.

A celebration of Susan’s life will be held on Saturday, November 16 th at Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd, Bayville, NJ 08721 from 11am-3pm.

She will always be remembered for her kindness, unconditional love, contagious levity, how approachable and inviting she was, and her ability to make a gourmet meal out of the leftovers in the fridge.
