Robert W. Wood, 80 of Waretown formerly of Bayville, passed away peacefully on February 29, 2024. Born in Orange, NJ and was raised in Iselin. Mr. Wood proudly served his country in the US Navy stationed in San Diego, CA. He attained the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class during the Vietnam War and was Honorably Discharged from the service of his country. Mr. Wood worked as an electrician for SM Electrical Company in Rahway which he retired from in 2007. Prior to that, he was a professional driver and operated his own logistic trucking company in Arizona. He also drove for other trucking and bussing companies throughout his career. Not only did he diligently serve his country, but Robert also continued to serve his communities as well. Robert was a Firefighter for Freehold and Edison Townships. He proudly served the community of Bayville as a life member and past president of the Bayville First Aid Squad. He was also an active member of the Emmanuel Community Christian Church in Bayville. Finally, Robert was a proud member of the American Legion, Barnegat Post 232. Robert also enjoyed NASCAR racing and was an avid football fan, rooting for the Jets to win, which didn’t happen as often as he would have liked. Mr. Wood is predeceased by his parents, William and Elizabeth, and by his daughter Debra Lee in 2009.
He is survived by his sister Margaret Ricci and her husband William; his children, William Wood and his fiancé Terrie, Daniel Wood and his wife Kathy, Robert Wood II and his wife Michelle, Tammy Jean Oberly, Wayne Oberley and his wife Sohela and Robert Oberley and wife Monica and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visiting hours for relatives and friends will be offered on Wednesday, Mar. 6th, from 4pm to 8pm at the Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville. The Funeral Service will be Thursday at 11am in the Emmanuel Community Christian Church, 331 Wheaton Ave., Bayville. Kindly arrive there before services begin. The burial with Military Honors will follow to B.G.W.C.D.Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert’s memory to: Friends of RCAAS 100 Dudley Rd.
