Robert (Bob) G. Ryan, 78, of Bayville, NJ passed away on July 19th 2024. Born in Bronx, NY and lived many years in Bayville, NJ.
Bob served in the US Navy during Vietnam from 1964-1968 as an Aviation Electronics Technician with Attack Squadron THIRTY-FOUR on the USS Intrepid. He was incredibly proud of his time in the Navy, it gave him an opportunity to travel the world and see places like Greece, Italy, Spain, and Turkey. The stories he told were legendary! After the Navy, Bob worked at the Kennedy Space Center as an Electronics Technician, and played a critical role in the success of the historic Apollo 11 mission, enabling the astronauts to land on the moon and return home safely. For his contributions, Bob was nominated for the "Manned Flight Awareness Award", and was the only person in his branch to receive that nomination. In 1970, he joined the NY Daily News as an electrician, where he spent the next 30+ years, and was a proud member of the IBEW, local 3. After he retired, he worked part time as a delivery driver for Napa Auto Parts.
Bob was a huge sports fan, and rooted primarily for his NY teams (Yankees, Knicks, and Giants). He, himself, was an incredible athlete, and highly recognized for his skills on the football field and basketball court. He was also a passionate reader, he read multiple newspapers daily and was never seen without a book in his hand, at the end of the day. However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family. The love and devotion that he had for his wife, Marianne, earned him the nickname, "Old Faithful". He took immense pride in his two sons and his grandchildren, celebrating their every achievement with unwavering support and love. He was incredibly smart, humble, and loyal. He loved to tell jokes, and always had a new one prepared for when he'd see you. His laugh and smile was contagious. He lived for fun, and fun he had! Bob leaves a legacy of love, dedication, and family pride that will forever be remembered and cherished.
Predeceased by his parents, Anne and George, and his sister Anne. Surviving is his wife, Marianne, their two sons Joe and Matt, along with their wives Jenni and Megan, as well as his two grandchildren, Hailey and Gavin, his younger brother Tom, wife Cathy, and his nieces and nephew Kathleen, Heather and Tim.
There will be a Viewing for Bob on Friday, July 26, 2024 from 5pm-8pm at Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd, Bayville, NJ 08721.
