Robert Contey Obituary

Robert Anthony Contey (Bob), born on July 18, 1937, in Jersey City, NJ, peacefully passed away on July 26, 2026, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family. Bob was the cherished son of Simon and Anna Bromirski Contey and was predeceased by his parents, his brother Frank, and many beloved family members and friends. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 67 years, Kathryn Gehringer Contey.

A dedicated father, Bob is survived by his daughters Beth, Chris, and Debbie, and he was the proud grandfather of Stephen, who is engaged to Julia, Robert, who is married to Rebecca, and Anna. He was also blessed to be a great-grandfather to sweet Sophia. Bob's family was the center of his universe, and he organized numerous family reunions, ensuring that family ties remained strong across generations. Bob's educational journey took him from Saint Peter’s Prep High School in Jersey City to Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, where he earned a bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering, and was introduced to his wife, Kathy.

He proudly served in the United States Air Force, receiving an honorable discharge in April 1966. Professionally, Bob held various leadership roles in the plastics manufacturing industry, and retired from Edison Plastics, a subsidiary of Blessings Corporation, after a 30-year career.

Beyond his professional life, Bob's passions were wide-ranging. He was an altar boy in his youth and worked as a lifeguard during his high school and college years. Raised at the Jersey shore, he was an enthusiastic fisherman and joined fishing clubs and participated in competitions. He enjoyed boating and spending time at the beach and was especially fond of his annual vacations in Luquillo, Puerto Rico.

Bob also loved gardening and cultivating plants from seeds. His favorite sports were golf, football, and tennis. His intellect shone through with his addiction to doing crossword puzzles and cryptograms, and he was an avid reader.

Bob passionately supported several charitable organizations, including Shriners Hospitals for Children, St Jude, and Tunnel to Towers. Bob's legacy is one of dedication and devotion to family and friends. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were fortunate to know him.
