Richard Talty Obituary

Richard Brendan Talty, (April 14, 1938-June 8, 2023). Born and raised in Paterson, NJ to Irish immigrants from Ireland - Michael Talty and Julia (Sheila) Carroll Talty. He raised his family in Fair Lawn NJ, before retiring to Pine Beach, NJ.

Upon graduating from St. John the Baptist High School, he received an undergraduate Bachelor of Science from St. Peter’s University of Jersey City, where his enthusiasm for journalism and sports led him to becoming a sports columnist for the Jersey Journal. He furthered his education, receiving his Masters of Arts from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, the City University of New York. He was proudly and honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corp.

Upon graduation, he began his professional career under the employ of the Dun & Bradstreet Corporation before entering the field of probation services. Former President of Probation Association of New Jersey, the Director of the Intensive Supervision Program (ISP), Director of Probation Services Administrative Office of the Courts before attaining Assistant Director of New Jersey Probation Services. He was a former adjunct professor of Ethics at Rutgers University in addition to assisting those suffering from drug and alcohol addictions.

Richie met Marie in 1959 at an Amadeus Club dance held at St. Anne’s Church in Fair Lawn, NJ, before marrying there on November 11, 1961. During their 61 years, they enjoyed many world travels while spending time with their beloved children and grandchildren.

Survived by Marie (nee Hellegers), his sons Thaddeus, Matthew (Deanne), and Brendan (Kelly) and his grandchildren Colleen (Jade), Kevin (Shawna), Connor (Dayna), Bercan, and Torin.

Funeral Mass to be held on Thursday, June 15th 11:00 AM St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church, Fair Lawn NJ.
