Richard (Rich) John Schmeling, 62, of Beachwood, NJ, passed away on December 16, 2024. Born on August 24, 1962, at Elizabeth General Hospital in Elizabeth, NJ, he was the son of Richard T. and Isabelle Schmeling.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia (Trish), and their son, Christopher, who was the light of his life. He is also survived by his father, Richard T. Schmeling; his sisters Sally (Jay) Minniti and Ruth (Pat) Coletta; and his brother David (Vickie) Schmeling, brother-in-law Richard (Rhonda) Ammann and his nieces & nephews; Brian Belli, Jillian Belli, John (Brandilyn) Radamski, Aidan Schmeling, Faith Schmeling, and Trent Schmeling. He was preceded in death by his mother, Isabelle Schmeling.
Richard was a proud graduate of Somerset County Vocational and Technical High School in Bridgewater, NJ, class of 1981. He was an excellent automobile mechanic, spending many years working at STS and Goodyear Tire and Auto Centers. His love for working with his hands extended beyond automobiles, as he also worked Creative Metal Contracting, and in sprinkler and fence installation, and small engine repair throughout his life. Richard’s natural talent for fixing things, especially cars and small engines, made him the go-to person for family and friends in need of help.
Richard lived in Somerset, NJ, from 1962 to 1988, then in Roselle, NJ until 2005, before settling in Beachwood, NJ, where he lived until his passing. He met the love of his life, Trish Ammann, in 1985 while playing “Peaceful Easy Feeling” on guitar. Their love story blossomed, and they married on July 30, 1989, in Somerset. Together, they raised their son, Christopher, who brought them great pride and joy.
In addition to his family and work, Richard was a passionate fisherman, always eager to spend time by the water. He had a deep love for music, often playing his guitar and enjoying the sounds of his favorite tunes. Richard had a great sense of humor and candid wit. He loved to have a good time and have a good laugh. He was also fiercely loyal and protective of family and friends.
Richard will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
