Richard J. McDowell, 80 of Ocean Gate, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at his home on November 24, 2025 with his loving wife Patty of 43 years at his side. Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, he moved to Brick Township, graduating from Brick Township high school. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving 4 years during the Vietnam War. He was stationed on the USS Wasp (CV-18), a prime recovery ship for returning Gemini space capsules and their astronaut crew.
Richie worked at Stanley Black & Decker for 25 years where he designed and sold tools to the automotive industry. After retirement, he worked for the County in Transportation (Ocean Ride). He was a member of Saint Barnabas Roman Catholic Church and the Ocean Gate Yacht Club, where he served as Rear Commodore. Besides dancing, he loved to golf, fish, and make people laugh. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan, having season tickets for 35 years.
Predeceased are his parents Thomas and Mae, brother Thomas Jr., and his son TJ. Surviving are his wife Patty (Duffy), sister Carol Blake, and brothers Robert (Nancy) and Peter. Richie is also survived by in laws Kathy Leonard (Tom), Thomas Duffy, Dennis Duffy, Brian Duffy, Chris Duffy (Michelle), Eileen Duffy (Marc Gold), and multiple beloved nieces and nephews, including goddaughters Sadie and Amy.
Memorial Services will be held on December 13, 2025, from 9 AM to 12 PM at Mastapeter Memorial Home 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville, NJ 08721 with a Service at 10:00am followed by Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Support WoundedWarriorsProject.org in Richard's name.
