Richard Edward Cavanagh, Sr. " aka Crash Cavanagh", 91, of Beachwood, died peacefully with his family at his bedside, on January 19, 2024. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Richard moved and settled to Beachwood in the early 1960’s. Mr. Cavanagh proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War, serving aboard the USS Markab, a Hamul-class destroyer. Upon his return home, he then continued his service at Lakehurst Naval Base. Rich started as a Test Mechanic working his way up to Supervisor of Test Facilities with over 40 years of service when he retired. Richard was a devoted family man and was predeceased by his beloved wife Anna of 57 years. He was also predeceased by his three siblings, James Cavanagh, Irene Metzer and Dolores Gilbert and by his four sisters-in-laws, Vivian LoVaglio, Nancy DeSalvo, Josephine Russo and Phyllis Kyde.
Surviving is his son, Richard Edward Cavanagh, Jr., and his wife Debra; his two cherished grandchildren, Anna and Richard III; also, his devoted best friend of 60 plus years John Weinman, and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours for relatives and friends will be offered on Wednesday, Jan. 24th, from 4pm to 7pm at the Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville. Funeral Thursday, 9:30am at the funeral home before celebrating a 11am Funeral Mass at St. Barnabas Church, 33 Woodland Road, Bayville. Burial with Military Honors will follow to B.G.W.C.D. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road, Wrightstown NJ, with an arrival time of 12:30pm.
