Regina Frances “Jean” Galanaugh, (nee Desmond), of Bayville, NJ (lately of Danville, PA), born on June 23, 1933, died peacefully at home on Friday April 18, 2025. Born and raised in Philadelphia, she was a graduate of West Catholic Girls’ High School.
Jean was a secretary at General Electric in Philadelphia, where she met her future husband. Jean was married to James “Jim” Galanaugh Jr. for 64 years until his death in 2020. Jean was homemaker, raising their five children, and then working as a secretary at Repro-Tech in West Paterson, NJ. Jean lived in Totowa, NJ for 23 years before retiring to Bayville in 1996, and later moving to Danville, PA in 2021. She was a communicant of St. Barnabas Church in Bayville, where she was an active member of the Rosarians, serving as president for several years.
Jean was first and foremost dedicated to her family and her faith. She was a role model of faith, loved by one and all for her caring, supportive nature. Surviving Jean are her five children, Maureen and her husband David W. Boyle of Indianapolis, IN; Margaret and her husband, Ed Deverell of Little Silver; James and his wife Catherine (Sirvidio) of Totowa; Daniel and his wife Becky (Andreatta) of Corvallis, OR; Gail and her husband Kevin Ferguson of Danville, and her twelve grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three nephews and a niece. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Stephen F. Costello, her parents Charles Desmond and Sarah Desmond (nee McColgan) and her sister Dorothy Desmond.
Jean was an avid reader, instilling her love of a good book in her children and grand children. Jean was an excellent cook, and many a delicious meal was served at her table.
There will a viewing on Friday, May 2, 2025 from 9:30 am to 11 am at the Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 am at St. Barnabas Church, 33 Woodland Road, Bayville. Burial will follow at 2 pm at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 350 Province Line Rd., Wrightstown, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean's memory may be made to Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, P.O. Box 476 Convent Road, Convent Station, NJ 07961-0476.
