Patrick B. McColgan

Patrick B. McColgan, 87, of Bayville died on Saturday, May 22, 2021. Born and raised in Plainfield and lived there many years. He also lived in Dunellen before moving to Bayville in 2000. Mr. McColgan finished first on his Civil Service Exam to become Chief of Police for the Plainfield Police Department, serving from 1972 to 1977. Afterwards, he served as Deputy Chief of Detectives for Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office from 1977 to 1984. Patrick is a current communicant of St. Barnabas Church in Bayville and a former communicant and Council Member of St. Mary’s Church in Plainfield. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Plainfield Jaycees in 1975. He also was a member of the Union County Police Chiefs Association and many other civic and fraternal organizations, and most recently was secretary and treasurer of the Bayview Dock Owners Association of Bayville. Mr. McColgan proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Hannah, and by his sister Marjorie Baron and his first wife Angela.

Surviving is his wife Dorothy “Daly” McColgan; three children, Brian, Kevin and Kathleen Sica and her husband Bryan. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and his brother-in-law William Daly and his wife Yone.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday, May 25th, from 2-4pm to 7-9pm at the Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville. Funeral Wednesday, 10am at the funeral home before celebrating an 11am Funeral Mass at St. Barnabas Church, Bayville. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Patrick’s memory to; St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital (stjude.org), would be appreciated.
