On May 21, 2024, my dad departed from us. For the past four years, my children Mia, Michael, Dominic, Gabriel, and Ava, along with my wife Kimberley, had the privilege and honor of having my father and my recently deceased mother (July 28th, 2022) live with us. During these years, the children grew an amazing bond, and my relationship with my father was heartfelt daily. On November 29th, 2023, Dad had hip surgery and battled hard to recover. Dad fought hard for nineteen months and passed peacefully, leaving his legacy behind. Surviving are his son, Praveen Prasad, and his three children, and his daughter, Madhuri, and her two daughters. My father was loved by many; the overwhelming condolences from family and friends have been heartwarming.
Dad retired as the Director of the USDA in Washington D.C. on December 31, 2010. He furthered his career as an independent consultant and advisor to the Food Safety Division, including the Regulatory Division, Pathogen Reduction, and Food Safety Quality Management.
Dad's education was extensive, beginning at the School of Veterinary Medicine in 1952. He continued his education on a full scholarship at Cambridge University in England, where he received his PhD in Microbiology, Public Health, Pathology, and Molecular Biology, graduating in 1962. In the United States, Dad graduated from West Virginia University in 1968 and furthered his education at the School of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University in Alabama. In 1971, Dad moved to New Jersey, attending Rutgers University to further his degrees and obtain his PhD in Physio-Pathology and Molecular Biology.
Dad was born in Patna, India, on April 24, 1933. He met my beloved mother and his wife of over 60 years, Darshan. May they both meet in eternal heaven and may his soul rest in peace. He will be deeply missed and in all our thoughts daily. I love you, Dad.
Neal, Kimberley, Mia, Michael, Dominic, Gabriel, and Ava.
"Goodbyes are for those only who love with their eyes. Because for those who love with heart and soul there is no such thing as separation - Rumi"
"We little knew that day, God was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you. You did not go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God called you home. You left us beautiful memories, your love is still our guide. And although we cannot see you, you are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same, but as god calls us one by one, the chain will link again." - Ron Tranmer
Visitation will be on May 29, 2024 from 6:00-8:00pm at Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville, NJ 08721.
