Michelina “Assenza” Dezio, 96, of Bayville, New Jersey, died peacefully at home with her loving family at her side. Born in New York City, “Mickey” was raised on Staten Island and has lived in Bayville since 1979. She was a devoted homemaker and was always happiest when she was surrounded by her family. She enjoyed cooking and baking and her family especially loved her famous anisette biscotti. She was also a talented seamstress and for many years enjoyed making hand sewn Halloween costumes for all of her grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 73 years, Salvatore, and by her five siblings, Mary, Rose, John, Stella and Grayce.
Surviving are her three children, Joseph Dezio and his wife Patricia, Sally Grimaldi and her husband Richard and Nancy Dezio Stanley and her husband Tom. Also, her six cherished grandchildren, Leah Dezio and her boyfriend Andrew, Rachel Ryan and her husband Keith, Richard Grimaldi, Andrew Grimaldi and his girlfriend Laura, April Mezzadri Reddy and her husband Bryan, and Grace Mezzadri and her fiancé Colin. She is also survived by her sweet great granddaughter Cecilia Ryan as well as her brother Salvatore “Sam” Assenza and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday, Oct. 4th, from 2pm to 6pm, at the Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville. Funeral Thursday, 8:30am at the funeral home before leaving to celebrate a 9:30am Funeral Mass at St. Barnabas Church, 33 Woodland Rd., Bayville. Entombment will follow at Oceanview Cemetery on Staten Island. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Dezio’s memory to: St. Jude Children’s Hospital (stjude.org), would be appreciated.
