Michael “Chick” Venezio, 87 of Ocean Gate, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Elizabeth, he lived in Linden and Westfield before moving to Ocean Gate in 1984. He was employed with NJ Transit, operator of several different Bus Lines, for many years before retiring. He also was a skilled carpenter who helped his father in the family construction business. Mr. Venezio proudly served his country in the US Marine Corp during the Korean War Era. Chick was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, and also crabbing on the Barnegat Bay. He was a dedicated family man who lived for his family. Besides being predeceased by his parents, he also was predeceased by his brother Joseph and sisters Carmen Stone and Mary Morton.
Surviving are his devoted wife of 62 years Dorothy and their three sons, Michael Jr. and his wife Stephanie, John and his wife Wendy and Daniel and his wife Kathleen: six grandchildren and six great grandchildren and his siblings, Frances Green and her husband John and Joann Twaskas and her husband Leonard.
Visiting hours will be Thursday, Jan. 11th, from 4pm to 7pm at the Mastapeter memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville. Funeral Friday, 9:30am at the funeral home before celebrating a 11am Funeral Mass at St. Barnabas Church, 33 Woodland Road, Bayville. Entombment will follow to St. Joseph Cemetery in Toms River. In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael’s memory to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org), would be appreciated.
