Maureen "Reeny" Kennedy, 62, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at her home in Shiloh, NC, after a long 2+ year courageous battle against lung cancer.
Born on October 11, 1962, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Montclair, NJ, to Gordon and Ann Marie Mills. Reeny grew up in Brick, NJ and attended Brick High School where she excelled in basketball and quickly became the school's star varsity player, achieving All County honors, as well as scoring over 1,000 career points before graduating in 1980 when the school retired her jersey number "24" and inducted her into the Hall of Fame.
Maureen married the love of her life, Keith Kennedy, in 1991 and together had 3 beautiful children, Courtney, Robert, and Randi, who were her absolute world. Maureen was a phenomal typist and always maintained a full-time job in the administrative field. Although she took great pride in her career, her greatest pride was her full-time job at home, being a wife and mother, which she certainly perfected and flourished at. Reeny lived for her family and was one of the most caring, nurturing, giving individuals you could ever have the privilege of knowing. Having a heart of gold, she was truly passionate about the people she loved and would literally give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. Reeny would light up any room she entered with her louder than life personality; she was always the life of the party and guaranteed to have everyone laughing with her theatrical stories and jokes and if there was music, Reeny was dancing! And let's not forget how she always kept things interesting and fun, whether it was her regularly changing the wall colors at home or her love for clothes and unique sense of style; she sure did keep us on our toes! Reeny was such a joy in everyone's life.
After raising her children in Bayville, NJ, Maureen and Keith retired and relocated to their very own little piece of paradise in North Carolina in the summer of 2020. Sadly, only 2 years into their retirement, she was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Reeny was a warrior; she endured countless chemo, immunotherapy, and radiation treatments and fought for her life up until the very end. Her strength, bravery, and determination will always be acknowledged, admired, and absolutely never forgotten.
Maureen was predeceased by her parents Gordon and Ann Marie Mills. She is survived by her husband, Keith Kennedy, her children: Courtney and fiancé Joshua Wood, Robert and wife Brooke, and youngest daughter, Randi. Her siblings: Stephen Mills and wife Donna, John Mills and partner Patty, Kevin Mills and wife Cheryl, Karen Toohey and her husband Todd, Joseph Mills, and Christopher Mills and partner Eduardo Massud. In addition, her granddaughter Quinn Kennedy and her future granddaughter Marina-Mae Wood, due in December; plus, a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 24th, from 12pm to 2pm at Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville, NJ.
