Mario Cavallo, 95, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 14, 2023. He was born on May 3, 1928, in the Bronx, NY to his loving parents Antonio and Carmela Cavallo. Mario met and married the love of his life, Alice in 1950. They later moved to Staten Island, NY in 1977. They eventually relocated to Hazlet, NJ in 1987 until they moved to Bayville, NJ where they had resided since 1994.
Mario had a lifelong passion for his family, his country, being a competitive runner, and the New York Yankees. Mario was a devoted athlete and competed in the Atlantic City Marathon, the Jersey Shore Marathon, the New York City Marathon, and the Boston Marathon. One of Mario’s most treasured memories was traveling to Cape Cod, MA to compete in the Falmouth Road Race.
For 40 years, Mario worked for Citibank, NY and retired in 1988. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy at the end of World War II. Mario was a family man above all else. He took great pride in the son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather that he was. Anyone who met Mario could not help but fall in love with his warm and compassionate nature, in addition to his witty sense of humor.
Mario is predeceased by his beloved wife Alice, his parents Antonio and Carmela Cavallo, and his 11 siblings. He is survived by his 7 children: Carmela Mantis, Christine Cavallo, Diane DiPalma and her husband Richard, Mario Cavallo and his wife Karen, Thomas Cavallo and his girlfriend Nancy, Robert Cavallo and his wife Mary, and Alice Reis and her husband Daniel as well as his 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
To all whose lives were touched by Mario, please join us in celebrating his life on Monday, June 19, 2023, between 1pm – 5pm at Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd. Bayville. There will be a mass to follow on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at 11am at St. Barnabas Church, 33 Woodland Rd, Bayville, NJ 08721.
