Obituary

Marino (Nino) M. Lacalandra passed away on Sunday August 14th, 2022 at Community Medical Center in Toms River, NJ. He was 87 and just two weeks shy of his 88th birthday on September 3rd.

He was born to Giuseppe and Porzia Giulani-Lacalandra and raised in Monopoli, Bari, Italy.  He served in the Italian Navy as a gunner as well as the Captain’s stewart in the Italian Merchant Marines. He sailed through Europe and Asia with the Merchant Marines until he decided to make America his home. He resided in Jersey City, NJ for 38 years until he settled in Beachwood, NJ.

He worked very hard for many years. Upon his arrival in America he worked for Butoni and then for S. Gumpert as the Shipping and Recievng Foreman. In later years he worked for the Jersey City Department of Sanitation and Public Works as a Senior Mechanic. He then retired and still went on to work for the Beachwood DPW. Yet finished his career life out as a devoted Beachwood Crossing Guard.

He loved spending time in his garden growing the best and most delicious Jersey tomatoes, eggplants, peppers and zucchini.  He enjoyed playing cards with his friends and family, he truly got dealt the best hand. He mostly enjoyed being by the water either fishing or crabbing.  He enjoyed the simple things in life like a glass of red wine, a nice breeze and Frank Sinatra playing in the background. He was incredibly devoted to the love of his life Rose for over 63 years.  He truly was the definition of a family man and took every opportunity he could to spend time with his wife, daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was an amazing man whom was nothing short of a hero to those who loved him. He had a life filled with adventure and so much love. He is already sorely missed by his wife, daughters, grandchildren, great-grand children, and many more people whom had the honor to  have known him.  He will forever live on in our memories as one of the greatest men to live.

In addition to his wife Rose he is survived by his two daughters Marietta Ricco, Porzia Reynosa and her husband Louis,  his grandchildren Alexa Ricco, Max Ricco and his fiancé Libeliz Cruz, his great-grand children Anthony and Emmah Ricco, and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his father Giuseppe Lacalandra, his mother Porzia Giuliani-Lacalandra, his brother Anthony Lacalanda, his sister’s Julia Lacalandra, Lina Perricci, Franca Sardella, Mimmina Capitano, Paola Lacalandra, Maria Lacalandra and son in law Wayne Ricco father of Alexa and Max.
