Lillian " Babe" Britton

Lillian (Babe) Britton ,83, of Bayville, New Jersey passed away December 15, 2021 in Toms River, New Jersey after a brief illness. Lillian was born on March 26, 1938 in Elizabeth, NJ to Christian L. and Lillian Thompson. Babe had many varied interests during her lifetime. As a young person she was a mate on a fishing boat, and later became a boat captain. She was also a scuba instructor and a talented engine mechanic. Babe was a member of the Bayville Volunteer First Aid Squad for many years and later in life became a member of the Berkeley Township Historical Society. Her hobbies included ceramics, sewing, stained glass work and horseback riding. Babe also enjoyed taking care of her koi pond. Babe’s longtime employment was with the Central Regional Board of Education where she was employed as a school bus driver. She also drove for the Berkeley Township Recreation  Department for many years.

Babe is survived by her sons Richard A. Britton Sr. and Samuel R. Britton Jr. (Lynne), and her daughter Sharon Chester ( Joseph), grandchildren; Richard A. Britton Jr, Joseph T. Chester Jr. and Hannah Britton. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Babe was predeceased by her husband Samuel R. Britton Sr., her parents; Lillian Bergstedt Thompson and Christian L.Thompson (Whitey) and her brothers Larry and Donald Thompson.

A viewing will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2021 from 9 to11am at Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd, Bayville, NJ. Directly followed by a burial at the Bayville Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Popcorn Park Zoo in Lillian's name.
