Kathleen L. McCann Obituary
Kathy McCann, 80, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on May 25, 1946, in Newark, New Jersey, and grew up in Maplewood, where she graduated from Columbia High School.
After marrying, she moved to Bayville, New Jersey in 1971, where she established her roots and raised her family. She later became a familiar and beloved face in Toms River through her many years of dedicated service at Wawa. More than simply enjoying her work, Kathy truly cherished the people she met each day. She had a remarkable memory for her regular customers, often recalling exactly what they came in to buy before they even reached the counter. She greeted everyone with warmth, kindness, and a genuine smile, taking great joy in making a positive difference in the lives of those around her.
These qualities were not reserved for her customers—they were simply who Kathy was. Known for her playful sense of humor, she loved making people laugh. If someone asked her for a tissue, she would jokingly reply, "A tissue? I barely know you!" before sharing a laugh. She also had a sweet habit of greeting many of the people she cared about with a kiss on the cheek—or on top of the head—making family, friends, and even strangers feel loved and welcome.
Kathy had a way of finding the good in every person and every situation. She was known for her generous spirit, compassionate heart, and unwavering willingness to lend a helping hand, offer guidance, or simply be there when someone needed her. She delighted in surprising people with thoughtful little trinkets or gifts, often remembering something they had admired or mentioned in passing. Her thoughtfulness wasn't about the gift itself—it was her way of letting people know they had been seen, heard, and genuinely cared for.
She was a lifelong Elvis Presley fan and also loved The Beatles. One of her favorite memories was seeing The Beatles perform at Shea Stadium while she was in high school, a story she always enjoyed sharing.
Above all else, Kathy cherished her family and friends. She treasured every moment spent with those she loved and held a special place in her heart for animals. A devoted pet lover, she showed the same compassion and care to her beloved pets as she did to everyone she met.
Kathy is lovingly remembered by her children, family, friends, coworkers, customers, neighbors, and all whose lives she touched with her kindness, generosity, humor, and love.
Kathy would want to be remembered with a smile, a laugh, and an act of kindness. She believed in seeing the good in everyone and making each day a little brighter for those around her. While she will be truly missed, her warmth, generosity, playful spirit, and unconditional love will live on in the hearts of those that knew and loved her.
At this time, no formal services will be held.
