Julia M. Skurla, 91, a resident of Bayville, N.J. passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, March 21st, 2023, just six days after the death of her husband, Stephen Skurla, Jr. She was born and raised in Hazleton, PA. Julia was the daughter of Andrew Rompilla, Sr. and Julia (Michak) Rompilla. Her twin brother, Joseph, her brother, Andrew, Jr., her brother, Michael, and her sister, Ann, predeceased her.
After graduation from Hazleton High School in 1949, Julia joined Bell Telephone Company and worked there until her marriage to Stephen on July 28, 1956. After marrying, they moved to Elizabeth, NJ where they had their first daughter. The couple eventually moved to Linden, NJ and had their second daughter. Julia was a member of St. George Byzantine Catholic Church in Linden. She was also a volunteer at St. Elizabeth’s in Linden where her daughters attended grammar school. Julia worked for the US Postal Service in Elizabeth, NJ until her retirement and moved to Bayville, NJ. Julia was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Byzantine Catholic Church in Toms River, NJ. She subsequently became a member of St. Barnabas Parish Community in Bayville, NJ. St. Barnabas has provided Julia and her husband with significant spiritual support especially as they started to decline in
health.
Julia is survived by her daughter, Joyce, and son-in-law, John of Bayville, NJ, and her daughter, Gail, and son-in-law, Brian of Vero Beach, Fl. Her sister, Ethel of New York, NY. Her sister-in-law, Dolores of Snellville, Georgia. Her sister-in-law, Mary and brother-in-law, Andrew of Hazleton, PA. There will be a private joint memorial service for Julia and Stephen at Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville, NJ on Friday, March 24 th from 9:30-10:45 am. A joint funeral mass will be held at St. Barnabas Parish Community Catholic Church, 33 Woodland Rd., Bayville, NJ on Friday, March 24 th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to either of her two favorite charities:
