Joseph M. Baird, age 56, of Bayville NJ began his next great adventure on February 3, 2026. Known fondly as "The Toot Man" and "Gidgy Gadget Joe," Joseph was a man of endless stories, a collector of curiosities, and a pillar of strength for everyone who knew him.
For over 30 years, Joseph and his devoted wife, Carole Baird, navigated life’s "ups, downs, ins, and outs" with a love that was meant for forever. Though God had other plans, their bond remains the heart of his legacy.
A connoisseur of the simple joys, Joseph was a master of the brewery circuit. He never met a growler he didn’t want to collect or a brewery story he couldn’t tell. His shelves were a testament to his travels, lined with growlers, coffee mugs, lighters, and his whimsical collection of rubber ducks. Whether he was experimenting with his latest gadget or sitting around a campfire, Joseph was in his element likely telling a tale that was as entertaining as it was questionable.
Above all, Joseph was a man of service. Whether it was the middle of the afternoon or the dead of night, he was the first person to show up for anyone in need. He "knew everything about everything" and was always ready to share that wisdom (and perhaps a laugh) with those he loved.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Carole Baird; his mother, Mary Ann Baird; and his mother-in-law, Carol Benedict. Joseph’s greatest joy was his role as an uncle and great-uncle. He leaves behind 8 nieces and nephews and 14 great nieces and nephews.
Joseph always said he wanted to "go out as a Viking," and as he sets sail for his next horizon, he leaves behind a world that is much quieter and less colorful without him. He will be greatly missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026 from 6:00-8:00pm at Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville, NJ 08721.
