Joseph J. Anetz Obituary

With hearts full of gratitude and sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved Dad & Pop-Pop, Joseph Anetz of Bayville, NJ. Joe passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026, with his loving family by his side. A life-long Jersey Shore resident, he was born on November 19, 1934 in Asbury Park, NJ. He was a devoted son, brother and husband to Mary - the love of his life - for 30 years until her passing in 1991.

Joe and Mary built a loving, beautiful life together in Wall, NJ, with Joe building their dream house himself. He worked in the concrete, construction & surveying industries for over 50 years, owning his own company in the 1980s.

Family was everything to Joe. The joy of his life was being Pop-Pop to Joe, Erin, Tom, Mason & Amelia.

Joe was a die-hard sports fan, especially of the NY Giants. He was a season ticket holder for many years and was thrilled to watch them win the Super Bowl. He also loved the NY Knicks and the NY Yankees. If he wasn’t watching sports, you could find him in his garden or strumming his acoustic guitar.

Joe always gave of himself to others. He was a devout parishioner of St. Barnabas, often volunteering his time to the food pantry and other charities.

Joe is survived by: his two daughters Chrysantha and her partner Michael of Neptune, NJ and Celia and her husband Neil of Whiting, NJ; his grandchildren Joseph McCaffrey and his wife Grace of Little Egg Harbor, NJ, Erin McCaffrey and her partner Brian of Port Monmouth, NJ, and Thomas McCaffrey of Port Charlotte, FL; his great grandchildren Mason McCaffrey and Amelia McCaffrey; his sister Marie Del Bene of Tinton Falls, NJ; plus many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

We will miss you forever, Pop-Pop. Thank you for the legacy of love, giving and devotion that you leave behind. “We’ll see you in a couple of days.”
