John J. Powers, Sr., 76, of Bayville, NJ passed away on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 with
his loving wife Christine by his side. His battle with serious medical issues in recent
years showed his courage in facing challenges and he stayed strong until the end.
John was born in Jersey City, NJ. John was a Vietnam War veteran who joined the
United States Marine Corps in 1963 and proudly served until 1967, achieving the rank
of Sergeant. Upon his discharge, John began his career with the Occupational Safety
and Health Administration (OSHA) and was honored by the Governor of New Jersey
upon his retirement. He was also recognized in 2018 for his service and heroism
following the events of September 11, 2001. John was a member of VFW Post #9503
and Corporal William H. Smith Detachment. He was also a faithful member of the
Church of St. Pius X in Forked River, NJ. He loved a good joke, dancing and spending
time with his family, friends and faithful dog, Riley.
John is predeceased by his parents Patrick and Marcella Powers. He is survived by his
beloved wife of 25 years, Christine Hansen Powers, his loving children, son John
Powers, Jr. (Jennifer), daughter Susan Powers (Bryan), stepdaughters Alanna Nilsen
(Craig) and Alyssa Kriegstein, cherished granddaughter Zion, his treasured sister
Cecelia Mastrorilli and her husband Nick and several nieces and nephews. He will be
dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Blvd, Bayville, NJ on Monday, April 12, 2021 from 4-7 pm and Tuesday, April 13, 2021
from 8:30-9:30am. A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at 10:00am at
the Church of St. Pius X, 300 Lacey Road, Forked River, NJ. A burial will follow at
