John J Hutchinson Jr. Obituary
With the sweet sounds of Doo-wop playing in the background, on December 19, 2023, John Joseph Hutchinson, Jr. passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by family, finally succumbing to complications from his battle with Parkinson’s disease. A longtime resident of both Roselle Park, NJ and Ocean Gate, NJ, John left an indelible mark in both places that he called home. He was a tireless educator throughout Union County where he was able to align his professional life to his core values, none more evident than the importance of family. John forged this value alongside his “widowed bride” of 51 years, Arleen Hutchinson (nee Lunz). Whether it was sharing his love for Notre Dame football, Seton Hall basketball, the New York Jets, or the New York Yankees, John truly enjoyed spending time with his sons: John (III), Michael, Tom, and Dan. Affectionately known as “Pop,” John could often be found surrounded by his many grandchildren: JT, Nicholas, Sloane, Ella, Zach, Thea, Grace, Tommy, and Huck. There were also many other names John answered to throughout his life - Big Red, Hutch, Coach, Mr. Hutch, Snapper, Yo! John - because he made an impact on so many people in so many different ways.
John, Jr. was predeceased by his parents, John Hutchinson, Sr. and Margaret Hutchinson (nee Lyons), brother Tom, and daughter Kathleen. He is also survived by brothers, Pete, Brian, and Joe; sisters, Mary Kouvel and Margaret Malaspina; and a long list of nieces, nephews, and extended cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to sing one more song with John before he “takes the last train for the coast” during visitation on January 6, 2024, from 12pm to 4pm, and a Memorial Mass at 3:30pm at Mastapeter Memorial Home (270 Atlantic City Blvd in Bayville, NJ) . In lieu of flowers, John’s family has requested a donation be made in his name to the V Foundation through the following link: https://www.v.org/home/
