Joan DeLuise 1932 - 2023
It is with great sadness the family of Joan DeLuise, 91, announce her passing on December 21, 2023. Joan was a native of Guttenberg, NJ and later moved with her husband Pete to Lyndhurst
then settled in Rutherford to raise their 7 children – Judy, Linda, Pete, Tom, Mary, Jim, and Chris.
She worked as a nurse for many years at Jersey City Medical Center and Clara Maas Hospital. Later she earned her Master’s Degree in Public Health and went to work for the
Rutherford Board of Education for 25 years, teaching Health and working as the school nurse in Union School. She was an active member of St. Mary Parish. After raising her
family, she and Pete moved into the Sonata Bay Community in Bayville, NJ. There she was an active member of St. Barnabas Parish, clubs in the community, organizations, and social
gatherings. Joan loved her family most of all. She lived for family gatherings, religiously attending sporting events, birthday parties or just spending time together.
Joan was recently preceded in death by her husband Pete (2023) and would have celebrated their 70th anniversary on December 26th, her son Pete (2020), sons-in-law Bill
Burns (2013) and Rich Pomo (2020) and sister Irene Bonino (2020). Joan is survived by her children Judy Pomo, Linda Burns, Tom DeLuise (Cathy), Mary
Critelli (Tom), Jim DeLuise, and Chris DeLuise (Wendy) and 11 Grandchildren – Michael Pomo (Stephanie), Tom Critelli (Chelsea), Jaime Pomo, Nicole DeLuise, Danielle Critelli,
Katie Parada (Del), Anthony Critelli, Bryan DeLuise, Evan DeLuise, Garrett Van Blarcom-DeLuise, Graicen Van Blarcom-DeLuise, and 3 Great Grandchildren – Matteo Parada, Lucy
Pomo and Bella Parada. Brother-in-law Robert Bonino and nieces and nephews. It is through these next generations that Joan’s and Pete’s love for family will continue.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday December 28th from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Mastapeter Memorial Home (270 Atlantic City Blvd, Bayville, NJ). The Memorial Mass will be
held on Saturday January 27, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Barnabas Catholic Church (33 Woodland Rd, Bayville).
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Wounded Warriors would be greatly appreciated.
