Janet Ross-Osman Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our mother, Janet Ross-Osman , of Beachwood, NJ. She died at the age of 74 on Tuesday, January 24th, 2023. Janet passed away surrounded by her husband Mohamed of 23 years and her daughters after a long standing battle with breast cancer.

Janet is predeceased by her parents Florence and John Ross, and Son-in-Law Michael Cutrona.  Janet was born in Jersey City, October 14, 1948. She is survived by her husband Mohamed; her daughter Shannon, grandchildren Perry and Ryleigh of Freehold, NJ; her daughter Heather of Bayville, NJ; her daughter Megan, husband Ryan and grandchildren Eben and Gus of Marlton, NJ; and her five siblings John, Gail, Robert, David, and Joanne and their spouses. She was a beloved aunt to 17 niece and nephews and 26 great nieces and nephews.

Janet grew up in Iselin where she lived with her five siblings. As a young girl she was a Girl Scout, volunteered as a candy stiper at JFK hospital, and played piano. Janet graduated from Kean College with a degree in Education to become an elementary school teacher and began a 15 year career in Old Bridge, NJ at the Willis School teaching first grade. She later made her way to Toms River, NJ where she retired as a Kindergarten teacher from Walnut Street Elementary School.

The house on Marco Island Drive was always buzzing with activity when Mom would be transporting us from dance, to swim, to field hockey, to band, to track, or softball. The mini van was always on the go but she made sure her daughters always knew she was there as she cheered them and their teammates from the sidelines. That voice and the ability with which she could project it was distinguishable. Neighborhood kids knew they could come in the front door and yell for ‘Aunt Janet’ where she would have a smile, open ear and words of advice when needed.

She continued that fierce devotion when she found out that she would be a ‘Grammy’ to her 4 grandchildren. Always armed with a donut and crafts; she, like her mother, found pure joy when being surrounded by their sweet faces and infectious laughs.

Janet had a love for her husband, children, grandchildren, Wawa coffee, country music, QVC, HSN and all things flamingo. Taken too soon, she has left an imprint on all those who were lucky enough to have known her, worked with her or were loved by her.

To honor Mom’s memory, we are holding a celebration of life on March 11th at the Beachwood Community Center at 147 Compass Avenue, Beachwood, NJ 08722 from 12-5 pm. We invite anyone who knew her to attend and remember her wonderful life.
