Jack Sanders

John “Jack” Sanders, 79, of Ocean Gate, NJ, passed away on June 10, 2024, with family by his side. Born and raised in Jersey City, NJ, Jack started his family there before moving to Cinnaminson, where he and his wife raised their children. He later settled in Ocean Gate in his family’s summer home.

As a young man, Jack proudly served his country in the US Army and worked for and ran his family’s hardware store. After leaving the family business, he continued his career in the hardware and construction industry from which he ultimately retired. Jack, a sports enthusiast, coached his children’s athletics and supported New York sports teams. He could often be found riding his bike, helping neighbors, sharing the oral history of Ocean Gate, bargain shopping, or causing a ruckus at the town Council meetings, but his favorite pastime was socializing under the 2nd pier pavilion. Jack was a beloved father, grandfather, neighbor, and friend. He was known for his ability to carry on a conversation with anyone and make friends everywhere he went.

Jack is predeceased by his parents, Richard and Gertrude Sanders, and by his brother, Richard “Dick” Sanders. He is survived by his wife Winnifred Sanders; his four children Monica Sanders, Wendy Sanders, Richard “Rick” Sanders, and Jill Sanders; and his grandchildren Leah, Richard “Ricky” Jr, and William.

Viewing for family and friends will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024, from 5pm to 8pm at Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd, Bayville, NJ 08721. A Prayer Service will be celebrated at 7:30pm, followed by Military Honors. The funeral will be on Saturday, June 15th, beginning at 9am at the funeral home, before proceeding to Bayview Cemetery in Jersey City, NJ, for burial at 11:30am. To honor Jack’s love of the beach, casual/summer/beach attire is strongly encouraged!
