Henry Nelson, Sr. Obituary

Henry W. Nelson Sr., 88, of Bayville died peacefully at home, with his loving family at his side, on January 14, 2022. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Hamilton Beach, Queens. He then married Serene Dunn, the love of his life and moved to East Orange. Then a few years later he moved the family to New Providence where he raised his four children, and then moved to Bayville in 1985. Mr. Nelson was employed in the Dairy industry for many years at Ideal and Thompson Dairies. He then served many years with the US Postal Service at the Asbury Park branch as Facilities Manager for grounds and maintenance, retiring in 1999. Mr. Nelson   enjoyed fishing and was an avid gardener. He loved watching baseball and was a talented baseball player as a kid and his baseball nickname was “Peanuts”. Mr. Nelson proudly served his country as a Pfc. in the US Army during the Korean War. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Serene in 2012 and by his son David in 2021.

Surviving are his three children; Henry W Nelson Jr., Serene D’Ambrisi and her husband Tom, Jeanne Rosario and her husband Paul, and his daughter-in-law Erin Nelson. Five grandchildren; David D’Ambrisi, Elizabeth McBride and her husband Patrick, Kelly Rosenberg and her husband Bobby, Paul Rosario Jr., David Nelson Jr. and his wife Katherine. Seven great grandchildren, Jacob Thomas, Taylor Jeanne, Ava Maria, Caitlyn Grace, Paulie Anthony III, Gabriel James and Leia Grace. Also surviving are his siblings, Joseph Connelly and his wife Linda, Billy Connelly and his wife Gail and Patricia Polese and her husband Ray and by his loving sister-in-law Virginia Bobbie.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday, Jan. 18th, from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville. Wednesday, relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Dad’s Funeral Mass at 11 am in St. Barnabas Church, 33 Woodland Rd., Bayville NJ 08721. If possible, please arrive 15 minutes before Mass begins. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Toms River.
