Gustav “Gus” E. Schreier, 85, of Bayville, passed away on April 24, 2023. Born in Jersey City, he lived many years in Ridgefield Park before settling in Bayville. Gus proudly served his country in the US Navy, serving aboard the Destroyer USS O’Hare. He worked as an electrician most of his life, ending his career retiring from Bell Atlantic/Verizon with the IBEW Union #400. He was an active member at St. Barnabas Church in Bayville, serving as an Usher, as well as a Past Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council #8603. He was also proud to volunteer his time with the Interfaith Hospitality Network. Gus was a lifelong NY Yankees fan, played softball, and basketball in high school. After retirement, he enjoyed nature and all the animals in it, listening to music and dancing, playing the organ and most of all, spending time with his family.
Mr. Schreier is predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years, Patricia H. Schreier. Surviving are his 4 children, Kevin Schreier and his wife Susan, Mary Jacobs and her husband Willie, Ellen Giles and her husband Richard and Kristen Montague and her husband Christopher; his 5 grandchildren Elizabeth, Claudia, Braedon, Alexandria and Patrick.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 from 5pm – 8pm at Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd. Bayville, NJ 08721. Funeral will be Wednesday, May 3rd at 9:30am in the funeral home, before leaving to celebrate an 11am Funeral Mass at St. Barnabas Church in Bayville. Burial will immediately follow at the BG William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown.
