He was a Dutch citizen born in Magelang, Indonesia, who unfortunately spent several years of his childhood in a Japanese internment camp. The couple lived briefly in Newville, PA and Newark, NJ before settling in Iselin, NJ where they raised their three beautiful children. Gritsko worked for Peerless Tube for several years before moving on to the Reynolds Metals Company where he worked for 16 years. Later, he worked at,  and retired from, Siemens. In 1997 Gritsko and his wife moved to Bayville, NJ where he spent the remainder of his life.

In 1989 Gritsko very proudly became a US citizen. He loved America, country music, dancing,  good food, taking long walks and bike rides, travel, the beach, working with his hands, and above all else, his wife and family, who he loved dearly.
