It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and brother, Gordon Gaffney, who passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 15, 2025, at the age of 70.
Gordon was born in Kearny, NJ to Charles and Marion Gaffney. He was the oldest of 6 children. In 1958, the family moved to Bayville, NJ. Raised in a loving family, his childhood was filled with happiness, mischief, faith, humor, and strong family bonds that shaped his character and instilled the values he carried throughout his life.
As a young boy, Gordon was an altar boy for St. Barnabas church. In High School, Gordon was part of the 1971 Central Regional High School Varsity football team “The best team in the State and in Ocean County” with an undefeated 9-0 record. He was also a member of the “Streakers” – If you know, You know. Gordon worked for 40 years for Perlmart Shop Rite. He started as a cart boy working his way up the ladder to management. He made many lifelong friends along the way. It was during this time that he lost a bet with a cashier, named Fran. The payment was a hot dog and soda at the snack bar. This was the beginning of a love story that spanned 50 wonderful years of marriage.
A devoted father, who learned sign language to communicate with his daughter, April. Together they had a love for road trips. They could often be found 4 wheeling together in the Pine Barrens. They also shared a love for working on homemade wood related projects. They often shared a rivalry between football teams – The Cowboys and The Eagles.
Together they enjoyed watching the Olympics and World Cup Soccer matches.
In retirement, he found great joy in working with wood. He often could be found making beautiful bird houses in his garage. He never missed a Dallas Cowboy game. In addition, Gordon enjoyed working on his 4x4 Dodge Ram truck and talking to all the neighbors as he was often called the MAYOR of Wave Road. Some of his favorite things were cookies, apple turnovers, British television, country music, and sitting on his porch. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, friends, and his dog Rocky.
Gordon is predeceased by his parents Charles and Marion Gaffney, siblings Charlene, Kevin, and Bryan and his beloved dogs Fluffy and Dallas.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Fran, his beloved daughter, April, and his companion Rocky. He also leaves behind his loving sister Colleen (Tim), brother Michael (Marie), and many nieces and nephews.
Viewing for friends and family will be on Sunday, June 22, 2025 from 12:00-3:00pm with a service at 2:30pm at Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville, NJ 08721.
