Giovanni Atzeni Obituary

Giovanni Battista Atzeni, age 61 of Bayville, died July 31, 2022, surrounded by the love and support of his family who were there to bear witness to his life. His larger-than-life personality filled up every room he entered and his absence is powerfully felt by all who knew him.

Giovanni Atzeni was born in February 1961 in Brazil. He immigrated to the United States when he was 9 years old and became a proud American citizen in June 1974. He served in the United States Navy and was stationed on the USS Midway. He was also a 2nd degree black belt in Isshinryu Karate, winning several competitions and awards. After retiring from his job as a HVAC/R journeyman, Giovanni happily served his parish of St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Bayville as a member of the Knights of Columbus #8603. This past year, Giovanni served as the past Grand Knight Sir Knight and recently became an Eucharistic Minister. He loved serving his community and working alongside his brother Knights.

Giovanni will be remembered for his funny jokes and contagious laugh. He loved being with his family and friends and was married to his wife for 38 years. He will also be remembered for being a talented artist, and his specialty was drawing pictures of animals for his daughters when they were younger and, later, for his grandson. Giovanni was also known as an avid movie fan and loved watching superhero films, action movies, and westerns. He was particularly a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and excitedly waited for new films to arrive. His favorite TV show was The Office and could spend hours quoting his favorite moments, including the episode where Kevin spills his pot of chili (this moment would make him laugh and laugh). He also enjoyed taking care of the animals and wildlife in his backyard. He will be missed by numerous groundhogs, squirrels, birds, and chipmunks as well as his two dogs, cockatiel, and grandpets.

Giovanni Atzeni is survived by and will be missed dearly by his wife, Lynn Atzeni, two daughters, Samantha and Jamie, his son-in-law Adam, a beloved grandson Cassian-Wyatt, his niece Rachelle, nephews Jeremy, Corey, Kyle, and Jonathan, his great-niece Isabella, and his great-nephews Micah, Addison, and Will. He is also survived and will be missed by his sister Mirella and her husband Bill, his brother Jevon, and his family-in-spirit the Tiner family, along with his devoted Tia Vera and her sisters in Brazil and his cousins, Nabil and his wife Jeanette, Labib, Sonya, Soraya, and Laura. He is also survived by his brothers at the Knights of Columbus and the community, friends, and neighbors that loved him. He was preceded in death
by his parents, Maria Ramos da Silva Chrzanowski and Eusebio Atzeni, and his beautiful grandmother Maria Ramos da Silva.
