Florence M Hirschfeld

Florence Margaret Hirschfeld passed away peacefully on the night of January 19, 2024.  Born September 8, 1937 to Andrew and Florence Carruthers, Florence spent her childhood in Brooklyn, NY.  At the age of 20, Florence married William Hirschfeld, who preceded her in death in 1992.  Prior to, the devoted couple spent the next 33 years loving and growing a family of six.  After spending the earlier part of her adulthood as a homemaker and second mom to all of the neighborhood kids, Florence began her career as a bank teller at First National Bank (Wachovia, Wells Fargo).  Florence was also predeceased by her daughter, Marjorie Hirschfeld Snoddy; her parents, Andrew and Florence Carruthers; her sisters, Patricia Ellen Pickett and Marion Pepper; her brother, Andrew Carruthers; and her two sons-in-law, Daniel Olsen and John DeFranco.  Florence is survived by her five children: Mary Olsen; Susan DeFranco; William Hirschfeld and wife Toni; Cindy Downs; Daniel Hirschfeld and wife Nora; son-in-law Kevin Snoddy; and nieces.  She is additionally survived by her grandchildren: Danielle Foran and husband Kenneth; Courtney Olsen; Charles Olsen and wife Emily; William Hirschfeld and wife Briana; Sarah Downs; Travis Downs; Valerie Oleksy and husband Kyle; Ian Hirschfeld; John DeFranco; and 6 great grandchildren whom she adored dearly.  A life well-lived and full of memories, Florence was often surrounded by her family with whom she shared many years of wisdom.  The family finds comfort in knowing that Florence will spend the rest of eternity enjoying her favorite pastimes such as reading, listening to her favorite music, and watching all of her favorite old movies with those who passed on before her.  The family will hold a private service for immediate family members where they will lay Florence to rest at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery. Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville, NJ 08721, is in charge of the arrangements.
