Fernanda Cuneo Obituary

Is there such a thing as a good bye? A sad inevitability, yet it has arrived and I struggle to find a means of expressing how it feels.

Fernanda Filomena Landi Cuneo, 94, was born on March 31, 1931 to Valentino and Giovanna Landi and  passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard J. Cuneo. She is a native of Fair Lawn who retired in Bayville, NJ where she has lived for nearly 40 years. She was one of Valentino and Giovanna’s nine children, survived by her brother, Joseph Landi, her children, Richard & his wife,Victoria Cuneo, Carol & her husband, Antonio Fevola, Kathleen Cuneo, and Patricia Cuneo & her husband, Alan Foley, and her six grandsons, their spouses, one great grandson, and countless nieces and nephews.

She was, as she proudly stated, seven of nine. And she was famously thick as thieves with her younger siblings, Gina & Joe. She is someone who lived by example, moving her family into her mother’s home to live with her and care for her. This allowed her to see the love her mother shared and she grew from this and spread her love. This house was the hub for the extended family and mom always made sure people felt at home.

She was employed by Fair Lawn Savings & Loan, later Columbia Bank, where she had risen from the rank of a teller to a bank officer. She fell in love with “the boy from the post office” and built a life and family together in Fair Lawn. She was inseparable from her husband, Dick, who dearly loved her and deferred to her every need. She and her husband, Dick, long had a shore house with her brother Buick and his family, where many fun family memories were made. They enjoyed family and took their chance to retire near the shore. Dick was always one to crack jokes and tell stories and Freddie was right by his side doing the same. They were affectionately loved by all of their nieces and nephews and returned the love in kind. Her niece, Lora Jean, was devoted to her and lovingly helped cared for her in the past few years.

She was a child of the depression yet never knew any lack because of how her family all loved and supported each other. Coming from a large family she knew how to listen and share.  As a child she was doted on not only by her older siblings, but by their spouses as well. This is not to say that it was always a perfect world.  Each of her siblings had their unique relationships with her. Many have already left, and she has missed them these past years, asking after them often when sitting and chatting at home. They are all together now. While we miss mommy and her ready Freddie smile and laugh, there is joy and comfort knowing she is now with daddy and her heavenly family as well.
