Esther Ortega (known affectionately by her family as Yayi), 94, of Bayville, NJ, passed away on October 28, 2025. She was born and raised in Montevideo, Uruguay, and moved to New Jersey in 1976 before settling in Bayville in the early 2000s.
Esther was a devoted homemaker and a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her love of travel, crafts, and card games lives on through her family. She was a parishioner at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church in Toms River.
Esther was predeceased by her loving husband, Rafael, and by her uncle Alberto and aunt Aurora. Surviving are her daughter, Sandra Turner, and her husband, Robert; three grandchildren, Daniel Turner and his wife, Kaity, Alyssa Turner, and Steven Turner (Cici); one great-granddaughter, Lena Turner; dear friends, including Richard and Gladys; and many beloved relatives in Uruguay, including Ana, Coco, Christina, and Marlené.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 1, 2025, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville, NJ 08721, with a Memorial Service at 4:30 p.m.
