Donald Walter Himpele, 79, of Bayville, NJ, peacefully passed away April 30, 2021 after a brief illness.
A beloved brother, husband, father, and grandfather, he was born May 21, 1941 in Newark, and grew up in Clark, NJ. A 1959 graduate of Arthur L. Johnson High School, he was a varsity athlete in football and track, in which he set a school record that stood for well over a decade. A devoted father of five children, whom he raised in Toms River, Don worked in a number of industries before retiring in 2018. In his infrequent leisure time, he enjoyed watching the Giants, automotive racing, and the Yankees. Don drove countless thousands of miles commuting, in truck and bus driving jobs, and he piloted a number of memorable family road trips - all the above completed without a single accident. In retirement, he made trips all year round to the Seaside Heights boardwalk for Maruca’s pizza.
He was predeceased by his wife Mary (Ribeiro) of 43 years and a brother, Bill, of Kingwood, TX. He is survived by his wife, Maria Luisa; son Jeffrey, of Princeton; daughter Laurie Knemoller, of Lacey; son Donald (Lisa), of Mahwah; daughter Cindy (Jason) Asay, of Toms River, and son William (Jeanette) of Lansdale, PA; ten grandchildren; siblings Rich of Brick, NJ and Karen of Kingwood, TX; two step-sons Javier (Catherine) and Jonathan; and three step-grandchildren.
