Domenick Lorelli, 94, of Sonata Bay, in Bayville, NJ peacefully passed away on February 15 after a short illness. He was born in Brooklyn, NY to Carmine and Angelina on May 17, 1931.
Domenick was an engineer and took great pride in his work designing marine steam engines that powered large shipping vessels.
Recruited out of college in Brooklyn, he went to work for Babcock and Wilcox in Akron, Ohio.
It was in Ohio where he met and married the love of his life, Mae, in 1955.
He served in the Army Corps of Engineers, attached to the Second Infantry Division stationed at Fort Lewis near Tacoma, Washington.
After his service, he was employed by Foster Wheeler in Livingston, NJ. He lived in Scotch Plains, NJ for many years where he raised his family.
After retiring, he moved to Bayville, NJ where he continued to utilize his professional engineering license working on local construction projects. While at Sonata Bay, Domenick and his wife made many friends. They enjoyed many years traveling with them and having an active social life.
He is predeceased by his wife Mae and his brother Pat. Surviving are his children Angela Smith and Domenick, son-in-law Gary Smith and daughter-in- law Lisa. Also surviving are grandchildren Kyle, Doug Smith and wife Emily, Cara Smith, Zach and step-granddaughter Jenn Drake and husband, Josh and step-great grandchildren, Cooper and Ella.
