Dolores Commander, 97, of Beachwood, NJ, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2024. Born in East Rutherford, she spent many of her younger years living throughout North Jersey, including her time spent packaging airplane parts at Wright Aeronautical, in Paterson, NJ, during World War II. After moving to Ocean County in 1958, she eventually settled in Beachwood in 1979. Along the way, she built a loving family with her childhood sweetheart and husband of 68 years, Frank Commander. Dolores was a devoted wife and mother to their three children, and a beloved grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was also a member of the Rosary Altar Society at St. Barnabas Church.
Dolores was predeceased by her husband Frank in 2014, her son-in-law Bill Byrnes in 2024, and many siblings. Surviving are her children Kathie Byrnes, Robin Commander and wife Claudia, and Lori Commander and husband Rich Stratton; grandchildren Christopher Commander and wife Michelle, Bill Byrnes and wife Christina Swierczek, Allison Byrnes and partner Lucas McConnell, Jeremy Commander, Rebecca Johnson and husband Joey, Matthew Humbert and wife Tracey; six great-grandchildren, Brandon, Joey, Victoria, Dylan, Jared, Atlas; and one great-great-grandchild, Oliver. She is also survived by her sister Joyce Emposimato and niece Gail Flynn.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025 from 8:30-9:15 a.m. at the Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville, NJ. Funeral mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. at St. Barnabas Church, 33 Woodland Rd., Bayville, NJ. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ.
