David M Shaw Sr. passed away peacefully on January 27, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones.
He was a devoted pop-pop to 14 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 12 great-grandchildren and a another great-grandchild on the way. David was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 5, 1937 to Kenneth and Dorothy Shaw (nee Stemen) . In June of 1973 Dave married Carol Sinclair and they resided in Roselle, NJ until 2001.
Dave built a career with White Castle as the maintenance supervisor of the northeast for 30 years. After taking an early retirement Carol and Dave moved to Beachwood, NJ in 2001. For over 30 years he enjoyed spending summer vacations at Sea Isle City, NJ. Dave and Carol enjoyed traveling, and visited most of the United States. Dave had a passion for fishing, boating, traveling, and visiting lighthouses, He would spend hours at their campsite in Ocean View, NJ putting puzzles together, it was not unusual for him to stay up well into the night enjoying this hobby.
Dave served in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1959. He is a member of the First United Methodist Church of Toms River. He was an active member of the Shriners International and a member of the Freemasons.
David was predeceased by Carol Shaw, his sister Carole White (nee Shaw), daughter Cheryl Grimes, son David Shaw Jr., granddaughter Jessica Carter. He is survived by his daughter Sharon Winter (David), stepchildren Nancy Dawson (Bruce), Sue Sinclair and Robert Sinclair (Susan). He is also survived by his long time companion Enid Fishman and her 2 daughters Kim Grosjean (Paul) and Lisa Aiello (Drew) and Enid's 4 grandchildren. Also many nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at the First United Methodist Church of Toms River on Saturday February 3rd from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. 129 Chestnut Street, Toms River, NJ. The burial of cremains will immediately follow at Ocean County Memorial Park, 1722 Silverton Rd. Toms River, NJ. Mastapeter Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville, NJ
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the National Brain Tumor Society in memory of Daves granddaughter, Jessica K Carter (nee Winter).
