Christopher John Bergin of Tinton Falls, NJ passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at his home. Born in Ridgewood, NJ, he lived most of his life in Ocean County, NJ. He was predeceased by his loving Dad, Daniel J. Bergin, his only brother, Daniel D. Bergin, Grandfathers, John J. Bergin and David A. Finley Jr., his cousin John W. Bergin, and his Aunt Anne Fleming. Chris is survived by his loving Mom, Donna M. Bergin, his beloved son Christopher J. Bergin Jr. and his Mother Amanda Suriano, Grandmothers Mary T. Bergin and Mildred C. Finley, his niece Courtney Bergin and her partner Hunter Gonzalez and their son Grayson Gonzalez, nephews Daniel D. Bergin Jr., Shawn Bergin, Brendan Bergin and Justin Lowden, his sister-in-law, Domenica Bergin, many Aunts, Uncles, cousins and extended families, countless friends and especially his fellow Marine brothers.
Chris was loved by all, due to his kind heart, loyalty, compassion and humor. His concern was mostly more for others than for himself. During his life, he enjoyed helping others, playing baseball, competing in BMX, journaling, snowboarding, the Ocean, playing pool, tending to his collection of Bonsai trees and plants, spending time with friends and his family. Especially since his Dad's and brother's passings, he spent countless hours with his Mom and was a loving and loyal son. Most importantly, as an absolutely awesome Daddy (who else would have a sandbox inside his apartment or bring snow inside into the bathtub when it was too cold to bring his son outdoors to play in it?!), he loved his son more than anything and Chris was happiest during all of the fun times they shared. Even as a child, he continued to be a friend to the hurting and lonely people and to the underdog as well. Chris excelled at most everything he did during his life. He served in combat as a US Marine having faithfully completed 2 tours in Iraq, in 2003 and 2005. As a result, he has fought many battles of his own ever since and fought very hard to conquer his demons. Prior to his passing, he was attending Ocean County College with the goal of becoming a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor. Chris was a devout Christian and due to his unwavering faith in God's Word and in Jesus Christ, he has joined his loved ones in Eternal Paradise. (John 3:16). Heaven has gained another angel and although Chris has left many of our broken hearts behind, he is finally at peace. He would surely want us all to live our best lives and to remember his good times. Rest in peace, Chris!! You will be sorely missed and deeply loved until we meet again. SEMPER FI. Special heartfelt thanks to Jennifer Garcia, Chris' VA Social Worker and to all of the staff of Soldier On.
