Charles A. Peters, of Berkeley Township, passed away on August 16, 2024. Charles was born on June 19, 1943, in Staten Island, New York. After both of his parents were killed when he was three years old, he was adopted by Jean and Alexander Peters. He moved to Pine Beach when he was 16 and later graduated from Toms River High School. He attended and graduated from Trenton State College. He served in the US Navy from 1967-1971.
In May 1971, Charlie met and fell in love with Catherine. They married on 3/1/1975 and settled in Bayville where they raised their two daughters in their beloved waterfront home. Catherine was the love of Charlie’s life, as well as his best friend, and responsible for saving his life.
Mr. Peters worked for the Ocean County Probation Department for over 30 years, retiring on 7/1/02. He also worked part-time as a consultant for the State ISP program. Charlie enjoyed being with his family, the beach, crabbing, gardening, Atlantic City, The Outer Banks, and happy hour (or longer). He was known as a kind, generous person, and he was noted for his dry, sarcastic humor.
Mr. Peters is predeceased by his birth and adopted parents, his son Charles Jr., and six siblings. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Catherine; his daughter Heather DellaPietro, and husband James; his daughter Catherine “Missy” Trentacoste and husband Nicholas, as well as six grandchildren, Justin, Daniella, Victoria, Aubrey, Catey, and Nicholas; his sister and many nieces and nephews. Finally, surviving are his four-legged pals Princess, Smokey, and Autumn.
Charlie asks everyone to do an act of kindness for someone less fortunate than themselves. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Popcorn Park Animal Refuge,1 Humane Way Forked River, 1-609-693-1900, would be appreciated.
A viewing for family and friends will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2024 from 2 PM to 5 PM at Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd. Bayville NJ 08721.
