Obituary

Maria Louise Smith, age 63, died peacefully on November 12, 2020 due to complications arising from respiratory failure, congestive heart failure and cancer. She was born on June 3, 1957 to the late Ezekiel Massiah and Marion Gates and resided in Englewood, NJ for most of her early life before moving to Bayville, NJ in 1997.

Maria was a meticulous and hard worker. Always a right arm to her employers. Her jobs included Graphic Scanning (where she met her husband), CPC International and Sally's Beauty Supply before becoming a homemaker for the next 40 years.
Maria had a passion for music, a God-given singing voice and was a talented piano player. She won several awards for competitions in piano solos, instrumental duets and singing. But her greatest moment was singing a duet with her husband to each other on their wedding day. "He Has Chosen You For Me" was their wedding song.

Maria made two things no one else could make better: lasagna and fried chicken wings. The way she made them has never been duplicated. A real treat and blessing to those who had the privilege of eating them.
Maria had a gift of discerning spirits. She liked you or she didn't. It was black or white. You usually knew where you stood. It was part of the charm of her personality. It was always a blessing and an honor to speak with such a unique individual.

Maria was the loving and devoted mother of Jason, Heather and Jeremy, the grandmother of Emily Buck, Preston Buck and Jacob Fingerlin, and daughter of Marion Massiah, all who will sorely miss her.
Maria is survived by her husband, Robert, who always felt like on top of the world around her but also had a great sense of comfort and security and peace when in her loving arms.

All whom loved her dearly will always remember her for her huge smile, sense of humor, wit, charm, talent, kindness but above all, her love of God and the scriptures. Maria truly was a child of God.

Services to remember Maria will be held at Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd. Bayville, NJ 08721 on November 18, 2020 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in a private gathering. Following this service will be her burial at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River, NJ.
