James “Buddy” Hardie, Jr., 76, of Beachwood, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on July 21, 2019. Born and raised in Jersey City, he moved to Beachwood in 1983. Mr. Hardie was a Mail Handler with the United States Post Office based out of Kearny, NJ with over 30 years of service. Buddy, affectionately known by his family as “Pa”, was dedicated to his neighbors and widely regarded as the, “Neighborhood Watch”. When looking for a pleasant conversation, they could always find him either polishing his car or tending to his meticulous grounds.

Mr. Hardie was predeceased by his beloved wife Barbara in 2005. Surviving are his two children, Amanda Tanzi and Keith Hardie, Keith’s girlfriend Viki and James’ three grandchildren, Nicholas, Daniel and Ryan.  

Visiting hours will be Wednesday, July 24th, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville. The Funeral will be held on Thursday July 25th at 8:30am beginning at the funeral home before celebrating a 9:30am Funeral Mass at St. Barnabas Church, 33 Woodland Rd., Bayville. Entombment will follow to Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. In lieu of flowers, donations in James’ memory to: Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, (pancan.org), would be greatly appreciated.

Very Sad News - My Deepest Sympathies to Keith, Amanda and the Entire Family ...... Mr. Hardie will be greatly missed by all of us :( So many memories from the near 30 years I had to pleasure of knowing him ......

So sorry to hear of Jim's passing...We remember going past the "Hardie" estate on occasions through the years heading back from shopping or running other errands. He always had a big smile and a wave! We will miss that! Our deepest condolences to Keith and Amanda and the rest of your family...May he Rest In Peace!
